Habitat: Grows in patches in moist meadows from the foothills into the mountains and solitary in moist woods
Location: Cuba, New Mexico

Description: A hummingbird hovers silently among the petals of Rocky Mountain Iris. For a heartbeat, bird and flower become one—an unseen moment of harmony in the high-country wild. Its iridescent feathers flash briefly before it vanishes into the mountain air. Time also vanished as I spent hours photographing this enchanting scene in the iris meadow. Hummingbirds chased each other without pause until the rain drove us all off.
