Monkeyflower Fen

from $280.00

Species: Spotted or Seep Monkeyflower (Mimulus guttatus), (moss)

Location: San Juan Mountains, Colorado

Public Lands: San Juan National Forest, Colorado

Description: Spotted monkeyflower is found in western North America and throughout the Rocky Mountain states. I likes it’s feet wet and grows in moist areas like streams and seeps. It thrives in habitat from alpine wet meadows to desert streams and has even been found in toxic tailings of copper mines.

High mountain wetlands, or fens, in the Rocky Mountains are vital spring-fed ecosystems, renowned for their high level of plant and animal diversity. They often act as refugia for unique and even rare plant species. Fens act as carbon sinks as they accumulate significant organic matter over time. They are also crucial for maintaining base flows to streams, particularly during dry periods, and their water filtration and flood control functions can benefit downstream communities.

Fine art printed acid free, 100% cotton rag paper, warm white or bright white, textured surface, archival quality.

Please note that print sizes are the inked area, the paper is larger to provide a 1” border to accommodate matting and framing.

13 × 19 paper, 11 × 17 inked area

16 × 24 paper, 14 × 22 inked area
